The firm received a Distinction, the highest recognition awarded within each category, reserved for work that sets a benchmark for excellence, in the Products & Services category, for its Heat Pump Calculator created with the Canadian Climate Institute. It also received Performance awards in the Editorial and Social Affairs categories, for the Heat Exchange report and the Seasonal Harvest Calendar for Qikiqtait, respectively.

This is the first time Voilà: has entered the competition.

About the IIID Award

The International Institute for Information Design is a global network recognized as a world leader in its field, and an official partner organization of UNESCO. The IIID Award is held every three years by an international jury. The 2026 edition is the sixth since the competition’s founding in 2011.

These three projects will be included in the official books of the 2026 winners. They will also be part of the international exhibition that will tour several countries.

From the founder

“The IIID Award is a benchmark in our field. We entered for the first time this year, and being recognized across three categories, including a Distinction, means a great deal to us and to the clients who trusted us with their most important ideas.”

— Francis Gagnon, Founder, Voilà:

Heat Pump Calculator

Distinction | Products & Services

Developed with the Canadian Climate Institute, the Heat Pump Calculator, is an interactive tool designed to help Canadians choose a heating and cooling system that is affordable, efficient, and has the least impact on the environment. Thanks to extensive research and analysis by the Institute, it allows users to configure the tool to reflect their specific circumstances as well as current market conditions and regulatory requirements.

“This project was one of our most ambitious in terms of audience, as we wanted to connect with all Canadians. We turned to our trusted partner, Voilà:, because we knew they would be able to create an exceptional experience. We are delighted that the IIID has recognized the quality of this project.”

— Julia Kilpatrick, Vice-President, External Affairs, Canadian Climate Institute

“It was precisely this ambition, combined with the complexity of the data, that drew us to this project. We are especially proud of how the interface starts out very simply and gradually gives the user full control once they have grasped the information.”

— Francis Gagnon, Founder, Voilà:

Seasonal Harvest Calendar for Qikiqtait

Performance | Social Affairs

Created with the Arctic Eider Society and the Canadian Museum of Nature, this unique project features ongoing harvest, seasonal transportation and climate data collected by the local community. The result is a trilingual (Inuktitut, French and English) interactive presentation of the harvest calendar across the six Inuit seasons, presented to the public in the prestigious Canadian Museum of Nature.

“This project is a major milestone for us—a way to honor traditional knowledge while empowering communities to collect data about their environment. We wanted the results to be seen and understood by our target audience in Ottawa.”

— Joel Heath, Executive Director, AES

“This calendar was meant to be a centerpiece of the new Qikiqtait exhibition. The collaboration with AES and Voilà enabled us to create an engaging interactive that presents this rich information to our visitors in a compelling and accessible format.”

— Anne Botman, Head of Content Development at the Canadian Museum of Natural History

“Designing for a museum, with a mix of traditional and citizen-collected data, for a physical installation was new to us, and that’s what made it exciting. We are proud to see the result recognized.”

Heating our buildings without impacting the climate

Performance | Editorial

The jury also awarded the Performance Award to the Heat Exchange project, another collaboration with the Climate Institute of Canada. This groundbreaking report details how Canada’s regulatory landscape will need to evolve to heat and cool Canadians while staying within climate limits.

“Our analyses are packed with data, and it’s important to us that they remain accessible and easy to understand. For these projects, we rely on Voilà to create a design that is both memorable and clear, and that effectively serves our goals.”

— Julia Kilpatrick, Vice-President, External Affairs, Canadian Climate Institute

“Voilà: brings more than a dozen years of experience to this kind of project. Designing clear analytical reports is at the heart of our raison d’être. It is an honour to do this one in particular and an honour to receive such recognition.”
